Why is my PNG so big?

PNG stores every pixel losslessly, which is great for sharp graphics but huge for photos. For photos, converting to JPEG or WebP shrinks the file dramatically.

How do I actually compress a PNG?

Reduce the dimensions (a 4000px PNG you only show at 800px is wasting space) and/or convert to WebP — both options are here, and you see the new size live.

Does it keep transparency?

If you keep PNG or choose WebP, yes. JPEG has no transparency, so a transparent area becomes a solid background.
